The reason most medical device booths read as noise is that they try to say everything at every level. Build three tiers and enforce them ruthlessly.
Tier 1: Who you are and what you do. Three to seven words. Readable at 30 feet. This answers one question: is this relevant to me? Not clever. Not a tagline built for a brand deck. A cardiologist walking ACC should be able to tell in one glance whether you make something in their world.
The test: cover your logo. Can a stranger tell what category you are in? If not, the headline is doing brand work instead of wayfinding work.
Tier 2: Why it matters. One sentence, or three short proof points. Readable at 10 feet, from the aisle edge, by someone who has slowed down but not committed. This is where a differentiator lives. Specific beats superlative every time. A concrete mechanism or a quantified outcome, if you can substantiate it, outperforms "innovative" and "advanced," which every booth in the hall also claims.
Tier 3: Evidence and specifications. Inside the booth. Panels, screens, printed material, and the conversation. This is where the clinical data, the regulatory status detail, the technical specifications, and the required disclosures live. Nobody reads this from the aisle and you should stop trying to make them.

Putting Regulated Claims on Large Format

Production Files and Bleed
The handoff to the exhibit house is where good design becomes a bad print.
What to supply:
- Vector where possible. PDF, AI, or EPS with fonts outlined and images embedded. Outlining fonts prevents substitution, which is the most common silent failure.
- Raster at the right resolution. Large format viewed at distance does not need print-quality DPI. Exhibit houses commonly target somewhere in the range of 100 to 150 DPI at final output size, which is far lower than the 300 DPI you would use for a brochure. Supplying a 300 DPI file at ten feet wide creates a file nobody can process for no visible benefit. Ask your exhibit house for their spec and build to it.
- Bleed per their specification, not a default. Tension fabric systems, hardwall panels, and rigid substrates all have different bleed and safe-area requirements, and fabric in particular wraps around a frame edge. Copy placed near an edge without accounting for the wrap will physically disappear around the back of the frame.
- A layered source file in addition to the flattened output, so last-minute changes onsite are possible.
- A dieline or template from the exhibit house, used as supplied. Do not rebuild it from measurements.
Always request:
- A scaled proof to review composition and hierarchy
- A physical draw-down or color proof for anything where brand color accuracy matters
- Confirmation of the print deadline, and work backward from it through your regulatory review, not forward from today
Seven Ways Booth Graphics Fail
- Headline too small. The single most common failure, and it is always discovered on the show floor when it is too late.
- Too many words. A paragraph on a back wall is a paragraph nobody reads.
- Identity below eye level. Blocked by people for the entire show.
- Clever over clear. A tagline that requires interpretation loses to a plain statement of category, every time, on a floor where attention is measured in seconds.
- Compliance retrofitted. Footnotes and qualifiers bolted onto an approved design after regulatory review, at a size chosen to preserve the layout rather than to be read.
- Edge copy on fabric. Text that wraps around the frame because the bleed spec was ignored.
